Guadalupe River State Park

Postby NefariousNed on Wed Apr 29, 2015 3:53 pm

While on my way to Boerne yesterday to see the film screening of "The Adventures Of Pepper & Paula", I decided to swing by
the Guadalupe River State Park. I was glad I did. Located just off Hwy. 46 West on the border of Comal and Kendal Counties,
"the park is comprised of a 1,938.7-acre segment of the Texas Hill Country noted for its ruggedness and scenic beauty" with
a four mile of Guadalupe riverfront to explore. There's a visitor center, ranger station, campgrounds, picnic areas overlooking
the river, guided tours, lots of woody areas with nature, hiking, and equestrian trails. as well as some cool limestone cliffs.
Because of my time limitation, I was only able to spend about an hour exploring maybe a half a mile of the riverfront, down
and back, taking photos along the way. Only slipped and fell in once. Got muddy.

Image
On the way in, I espied this cool old stone ruin and hung quick u-turn to get some photos. Shame that it did not have some sort of sign,
or historical marker, because it must have some interesting history.

Nice woody area. All the white rock on the ground looked like patches of snow.

This stretch of the Guadalupe River is about 14 miles east of Boerne. One thing I noticed is how it was not flowing as swiftly as it does
through New Braunfels. Water is not as clear, either.

Another thing I noticed was the total lack of wildlife. Not a waterfowl to be seen. Those lazy things are probably over at Landa Park in
New Braunfels getting free handouts.

Well, adios to the Guadalupe River State Park, for now. An hour is not long enough to take in even a decent portion of it. But I hope
you've enjoyed this sampling. Will certainly be returning in the future to make an entire day of it. Not just the riverside trails, but the
nature and woodland ones, as well.

All-day admission fee to the park (til 10:00 PM) is $4 for Seniors and $7 for normal people.

Thanks again Ned

What cool looking photographs bless you yet another superb storyboard
of your trip Ned

That river looks quite high to me and brings back memories of 2012 here
but what a beautiful part of the world you have shared with us and I
thank you for doing so.

Now there is one of your images with you standing under that beautiful
tree that reminds me of that scene in the film when John Wayne and
Linda Cristal were standing under a similar looking tree just before he
sends her away can I ask did this spring into your mind like it did with
me Ned????

Once again thank you for hard work into getting these onto the forum
for us

Kindest regards to you

Gill

What a beautiful area! Funny, you did´nt meet any wildlife and during spring at that. It looks like the area got it all, from old stone ruins to cliffs and old great looking trees.

Only slipped and fell in once.

Only once? Glad you´re improving. :D
