bgroneman wrote:Hey Santa, I received your card and check. When you said "keep the change" I thought that meant you were sending more than the normal subscription fee of $19.00, as so many other subscribers do. But the check was for $19.00, so where does the change figure in?! Or did you just want a reason to call me a filthy animal? Also, you didn't send the subscription form. Does that mean you just want to contribute the $19.00 to the Alamo Journal, or do you still want to receive the journal?

It means that my mind is going, and I don't know what I'm doing half the time.
It was intended to be my membership renewal which means, I think, as a member, that it is a subscription renewal that comes with membership. I didn't include the form because I didn't want to cut up the beautiful Alamo Journal that the renewal form was printed in.
So, I just sent the $19, and tried to be funny by repeating that line from "Home Alone", which is from the gangster movie Kevin watches as he sees the maniacal laughing mobster with the Tommy gun riddle a guy with bullets. The guy had come for his money, and the payoff was in lead. "Keep the change, you filthy animal" says the Tommy gun totin' crook after delivering the payoff.
So, even though there really isn't any extra change in my check, I was hoping to give you a little chuckle. Sorry if I was confusing, and sorry if I'm over explaining myself. Like I said, my mind is going. I think I have the medical condition seen in "Joe vs. the Vulcano". The doctor (Robert Stack) diagnosed Joe (Tom Hanks) as having a "brain cloud". In my case, it's a brain cloud with a chance of rain.
Merry Christmas, You Filthy Animal, :D

Shell,

Your journal went out in the group mailed yesterday, so you probably won't get it until Monday. This is how I mailed them:

Tuesday: I mailed the ones to Editor Emeritus Bill Chemerka, and the ones to the foreign subscribers. I also sent a group of 100 to those who contributed more than the required amount, filling out the 100 with those who subscribed earliest.

Wednesday: I mailed another 100 in the order of their subscriptions.

Thursday: I mailed the rest in the order of their subscriptions, and also to those who did not send a subscription form with their check.

Yours was in the Thursday group.

R.I. P. "Alamo Journal". March 6, 1986-December, 2017.

What started in 1979 as "Alamo International", a sort of "snail mail" version of am Alamo chatroom with Phil Rosenthal,
Tony Pasqua, Mike Boldt, Bill Groneman, Kaj Andersen, Don Clark, John Hubbell, Mike Waters, Ned Huthmacher, Kevin
Young and a few others, grew to a healthy organization of Alamo buffs in 1986 when Bill Chemerka took the helm and
renamed the group "The Alamo Society and the newsletter, "The Alamo Journal". It's been a great 31 run. Thanks to
Bill Chemerka and all those involved over the years for making it the quality publication it is/was. So much so, in fact
that the Alamo itself even became a subscriber! From now on we'll all have to settle for online web pages to try and fill
the huge gap left by the Journal's folding. Ah me!

Not so fast Members;
There are plans now to keep an Alamo Society Journal going forever.
Its not like there is a lot of time, and there may be some delay....but the wheels are turning.

Just received my issue of "The Alamo Journal". Sad to say that it is the last one but I know the "digital" version, "The Alamo Dispatch"
edited by my buddy Glenn Effler will be sensational. Thanks again to everyone who subscribed and enjoyed each issue of the Journal.
Thanks to Bill Chemerka and William Groneman for their patience and hard work. It was a BLAST.

A big "Thank You" to Mike Boldt, Bill Chemerka, and Bill Groneman, for The Alamo Journal and for all the other Alamo
related writings, creations and events that you created or to which you contributed. Sorry that I missed so much of
what had been going on for 30 years, but I'm happy to have at least been in on the tail end of it.
Reading through this final issue of The Alamo Journal and finally reading the last page of the last issue, is kind of like
getting to New Year's Eve as the clock strikes midnight. So, I'll look at the back cover, and sing "Auld Ang Syne". Pour
me a stiff one, and I'll see you at HHD 2018. ;)

Mo's copy has arrived this morning but he is away visiting
his older brother Roy who is very ill with a serious infection
on both his lungs but thankfully he is getting better but very
slowly

I am sure he will open it when he gets back but sad it is
the last one as we both enjoy our copy of it.

Best wishes
