On our way to the Alamo this past Saturday, we discovered that there was a Veterans Day Parade soon to commence on Alamo Plaza.
Ran into Ricardo Rodriguez and some of the Granaderos de Galvez who were staging for the parade.

Glad to see our flag being treated with reverence. Texans have a thing for flags.

Remember a Vet on Veteran's Day. Here's my brother, forum member Rob, doing his bit.

On this Veterans Day, we remember Billy Walkabout, a Cherokee from the Blue Holly clan. Some say he is the most decorated NA soldier of the VietNam war. Billy served as a Ranger and scout on a recon team of the 101st Airborne. During one particularly bad battle, three members of his team were killed outright in an ambush. The rest, including Billy, suffered serious wounds. Billy alternated between returning fire, rendering first aid to his team mates, and being shot again while guiding in an extraction helicopter. Billy made sure that every American, dead or alive, was brought out of that battle.
Ultimately, Billy received the Distinguished Service Cross, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, four Silver Stars, ten Bronze Stars, and six Purple Hearts.
Billy didn't care much for his medals, but he proudly wore a vest that displayed the "Screaming Eagle" of the 101st Airborne, and his Ranger patch. "That's all I was", Billy used to say, "I was just another Indian scout, that's all".
Billy left us at the young age of 57 from complications consistent with repeated exposure to "agent orange". He served our nation and all Americans proudly.
RIP, Billy, you were a lot more than just an Indian scout.

When are they going to move that British Cenotaph from Whitehall and put it closer to where British war-dead are actually buried? That's a rhetorical question.
Thanks for posting the article, Ned.
