I remarked to Rich how much of this area reminded me of the land around Dripping Springs. It's green and growin'. Rich responded,
"Much like those green pastures we hear tell of."

What water? I only see a moist area of dirt. :D

As part of the "new" Alamo Village realization, the swamp coolers/air conditioners will be hidden on the roof.

Unfortunately, where movies are concerned, "hidden" and "on the roof" don't go together. A crane shot of Front Street would reveal them immediately. Thus, if we do that, it eliminates a crane shot -- and the more angles we eliminate, the less draw we have for movies. David also wanted to run a railroad right through between the Alamo and the village, but he quickly understood why that wasn't a great idea. And my previsualization model showed him an alternative that he loved. ;)

Now again Ned

Thank you once again to you for posting all the wonderful images of the Bluffs, The Waynamo and the Town
man what a difference from the last time I was there that over growth is really nature at it's best at taking it
back slowly but it was nice to see you, John and Rich walking around it and no doubt having a wonderful time
chatting no doubt about the film so again Ned thank you for sharing all of them with us and it seems to look
in good shape especially the town part of it and the Waynamo facade seems to be holding it's own.

All in all great stuff and it was nice to see the weather was very good to the three of you.

Take care now

Best as always

Mo

Thanks my friends

It is the photographer who got such great angles of the Bluffs that day that helped me
try and match them with the screen captures from the film with success for once.

Really enjoyed seeing these pics. Thanks Ned, Rich, & John for sharing your trip. The Alamo compound doesn't look half bad... I was expecting much worse (I'm sure up-close & personal, it shows real wear). Last time I was there was Oct 2010 -- 5 yrs ago this month. I am surprised at how green it is compared to other times I've seen it. Gets me in the mood for doing another living history there. After all, it has been nearly 30 years!!! The Mexican Army wouldn't have to kill us this time... just wait for us to die off!

No, Gary. The bluffs are on the right bank of the West Nueces River on the L.L. Davis Ranch northeast of the Shahan Ranch (now actually the Rains Ranch owned by daughter Jamie Shahan Rains). The location for the cannon/caisson crossing is about a mile further up the river bank at a creek that flowed into it. Both water courses are now dry.

Since Ned took these pictures, it's rained at least twice, including today. Rich, does this dry creek likely now have water in it again?

Nope. Probably only a puddle in the rocks here and there. The creek probably filled within hours after the storm (which wasn't the severe
weather that central Texas had) but emptied very quickly into the dry West Nueces several hundred yards south where it probably sunk in
the dust very quickly.

That's much like each of us, roaming the Earth for a brief moment in time. We burst forth like thunderstorms, then, when our time is up, we pass into dust, leaving only small hints that we were ever here.

Then again, you could say that it's like Texas and that Texas Spirit we hear so much about. Trouble might hit a Texan like a thunderstorm brings a flash flood to a dry Texas creek. But trouble always rolls right off a Texan's back, and he just stands there ready for more.
Is that a little more upbeat for ya?

Speaking of trouble... From "Cat Ballou"

"You're an lndian, ain't you?
It's all right. I got nothing against lndians. They was a breed of men in the Old West! But it's over for them, like it is for the gunfighter. Except we didn't get no reservation or get taught how to weave rugs. See you later, son.
It's all over in Dodge. Tombstone too. Cheyenne, Deadwood, all gone. All dead and gone. Last time I come through Tombstone...big excitement there was the roller rink they laid out over the OK Corral.
I used to work the Buffalo Bill Show and the Congress of Rough Riders. I've rescued stagecoach riders from road agents and drunk lndians...in the nick of time. Twice a day. Three times on Saturday. Where'd it go?
You see a man with his eyes set...and his head on a bias and his teeth like a mule's. He'd as soon hang your guts on a fence as say, "Good morning." He's a gunfighter. Proud and feared of nothing... because there ain't nothing he gotta bow down to. Every man tips his hat. Every boy knows his name. Ain't no place he ain't welcome.
When a gunfighter's around, trouble naturally stays away. Folks saying, "Hiya, Kid!" "How you doing, Kid?" "Come in for a pitcher of milk and gingerbread!" Or, "Come up here and cool your heels. It's hot outside."
Because nobody don't make no fun...of a friend of Kid Sheleen.
Miss Ballou! I am here!"
